Day 1: Arrive in Arusha
Arrive into Arusha, pick up by your driver and take a private transfer to your hotel for the evening. Relax and have dinner – or enjoy a spa treatment.
Day 2: Tarangire National Park
Today your guide will collect you from your lodge and you’ll head to the lesser-known Tarangire National Park. Here you’ll see the incredible, large and iconic baobab trees, large herds of elephants and July through September you can catch what is called the mini-migration that passes through the park!
Follow the seasonal river path where animals congregate during the dry season. You’ll spend the day looking for elephants and all other wildlife including lions, cheetahs on termite mounds, and numerous birds in addition to many other species.
Day 3: Walking Safari and Game Drive in Tarangire National Park
Today you’ll start with an exciting walking safari! Follow your experienced guide as they take you through a sensory experience, tracking wildlife by foot and watching animals from a completely different perspective!
Return to camp for lunch and a short rest and then head out on an afternoon game drive.
Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater – Maasai Village Experience
Crater Highlands Camp
Today you will depart from Tarangire and head to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area where you will also visit a local Maasai village to learn about their culture and traditions in the beautiful setting of the Crater Highlands.
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive
Crater Highlands Camp
Today you will depart early and set out to see the famous Ngorongoro Crater with a picnic breakfast. Descend to the Crater floor and look out for black rhino, large bull elephants, wildebeest and the famous crater lions!
In the afternoon, return to your lodge to relax or even take a short walk with your guide to stretch your legs.
Day 6: Optional Hike into the Olmati Crater or Descend to Empakaai Crater
Crater Highlands Camp
Starting directly from camp, the Olmoti climb follows an ancient Maasai cattle trail through mountain forest, grasslands and rocky outcrops. Make the most of outstanding birding opportunities and the chance to see a vast array of butterfly species. At the top, you are rewarded with a magnificent view of the crater below.
Descend into the Empakaai crater accompanied by an NCA ranger and walk to the sparkling soda lake on the crater floor, famous for the pink flamingo that congregate on its shores. Because of the camp’s proximity to Empakaai, it is the only property that gives you the opportunity to make this a half-day excursion.
Day 7: Fly into the Serengeti – game drives to see the Great Migration
Central Serengeti in Luxury Tented Camp
Today you will head to the Manyara Airstrip to connect with a flight onward to the Serengeti – bypassing the dusting drive between the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti National Park.
Day 8-11: Follow the Migration – Serengeti National Park
Remote Tented Camp
Depending on the time of year, the migration moves through the park following grazing opportunities. We’ll make sure you’re at the best spot to catch the migration for whichever season you’re on safari!
Where the migration can be found throughout the year:
December: Central, Seronera Serengeti
January – March: Wildebeest calving season, Central to Southern Serengeti
June – early July: West Serengeti and Grumeti Reserve
Late July – October: Northern Serengeti
Spend the next four days following the migration – perhaps through the vast open Southern Plains or if in August through October, hopefully catching the wildebeest as they cross the Mara River – quite an exhilarating spectacle!
Mornings start with a hot cup of coffee or tea and a light breakfast, then head out on an exciting game drive! In some areas, walking safaris can also be arranged by request.
Day 12: Departure
Fly from the Serengeti back to Arusha and connect with your flight home or book an extension to one of the beautiful islands off the coast of Tanzania!
